Domaine de La Main d'Or
The Mâconnais is currently perhaps Burgundy’s most dynamic region.
In the past only Pouilly Fuissé, a source of rich and ripe white wines, Viré-Clessé and Pouilly Vinzelles stood out from the crowd, but now a new generation of growers are producing some excellent Mâcon Villages.
The wines used to be cheap and simple, rarely lasting more than a year or two after the vintage, but now one or two growers in each village are making proper, oak aged, complex and reasonably concentrated wines which will develop well in bottle.
Gérard Doussau is one such winemaker, utilising modern wine making methods, to produce quailty light-styled wines.
Domaine de la Main d'Or (Domaine of the Golden Hand) is located a few kilometers away from the Tournus Romane Abbey in the heart of Southern Burgundy.
