Domaine de La Madone
Domaine de la Madone is perfectly situated in the hills surrounding the 1866 Chapel of the Madonna.
The best wines of Fleurie are thought to come from the granite hillside surrounding the chapel and it is on the southwest facing slopes that Jean-Marc Desprès cultivates his vines.
Jean-Marc produces three excellent cuvées: "Tradition" is a classic Fleurie with a feminine, floral bouquet and silky smooth fruit and firm structure. "Vieilles Vignes" is an older-vine cuvée, richer and more ageworthy.
Fleurie epitomises all that is good about the region with its perfumed, silky, moreish style. As its name suggests, this quintessential Beaujolais is fresh, floral, fragrant and feminine.
Fleurie is a registered designation of origin (appellation d’origine contrôlée) and includes 850 hectares of vines.
Certain areas (micro-climates) are ideal for yielding wines of superior quality. The best known is La Madone, a hillside from whose summit a little chapel overlooks the village and symbolises the wines of Fleurie.
