Domaine Cheysson
This historic 36ha domaine, run by Jean-Pierre Large, is situated at the top of a hill with views of the Alps and Mont Blanc and its vineyards are at some of the highest altitudes among the Cru Beaujolais.
The winery was established in the 17th century and the old family home is still on the site which houses France's oldest tennis court!
The vines at Domaine Cheysson are situated on steep slopes, on granit soil which gives the vineyard a "breezy" climate and unique "terroir".
Domaine Cheysson regularly wins awards in France and is always noted in the Guide Hachette, one of France's most reliable (and comprehensive) wine guides to the best estates in each region.
Bright, ruby colour with punnet after punnet of fresh summer berries on the nose. Soft and juicy on the palate, it eschews any confected notes in favour of a distinctly Pinot Noir-esque style.
