Château de La Gardine
Now an historic Appellation Domain, Château de la Gardine is one of the best Domaines in Châteauneuf du Pape, owned by the Brunel family.
The first Brunel at Gardine was Gaston Brunel, a wine merchant himself, who contributed to the creation of a professional syndicate and devoted himself exclusively to Château de La Gardine in later years, until 1964, when his son Philippe aquired a further domaine covering 54 ha.
Today the 135 acre estate makes the domain one of the biggest privately owned in Châteauneuf du Pape.
To his sons he left the joy of managing and promoting this splendid heritage in France and throughout the world, where it rapidly became known as one of the jewels of the wine region.
Today, several generations work here: Maxime, Patrick and Philippe Brunel operate this beautiful 250 acre domain right in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône appellation.
Much time and dedication must go into blending, the often 3 or more grape varieties (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre). A bottle of Châteauneuf du Pape should mature between 5 and 20 years for the best vintages. The 2007 vintage has certainly been a great, with much praise from Robert Parker.
