The village of Chablis gives its name to one of the most famous French white wines. Chablis is made with Chardonnay, a grape that grows particularly well in the region.
Being further north than the rest of Burgundy, and on a different type of limestone (Kimmeridgian, with some Portlandian), the wines are subtly different in style – slightly more austere with a beautiful fresh minerality, which is what makes makes them so good with seafood!
A lovely 20 hectare estate surrounding the village of Chablis. The vines get all the exposure to the sun they need on these steep south-east facing slopes running east to west.
Domaine Guy Robin have excellent vineyard holdings in the Premier Cru Chablis classification.
Marie-Ange Robin has won many awards, and deservedly so. She uses little or no oak barrels during the vinification of the wines to ensure the flavours of classic Chablis terroir are left unimpeded.
Once you’ve tried it, you’ll certainly see the benefits of this non-interventionist approach for these very reasonably priced Premier Cru wines.

Chablis Grand Cru ~ Domaine Guy Robin ‘Vielles Vignes’

£239.40 Per Case (Ex VAT) Equiv price per bottle £19.95 (ex VAT)

Winemaker Marie-Ange Robin represents the fourth generation of vine growers in the family. It was her father Guy who, parcel by parcel, purchased Chablis vineyards in the 1950s; yet it is Marie-Ange who has brought the winery to a level of greatness for which it was always destined. There are few other Chablis estates with such a rich collection of older-vine rootstock, and as a result, few other estates that deliver Chablis wines of such character and complexity. Some 80 percent of the family’s vines today—across five grand cru and four premier cru vineyards—are “vieilles vignes” or older vines.
