Like many other dishes the best wine for a risotto depends on the actual flavourings, as opposed to the risotto rice itself. If the risotto is full of fresh vegetables, a crisper and lighter wine would be a good pairing.
For seafood based risottos, more complex white wines can be introduced to balance the flavours of the fish or shellfish. Richer and heavier risottos, such as creamy mushroom or chicken, may benefit from an oaked Chardonnay or even a light red to help balance the flavours.

Marlborough ~ Clos Henri – Pinot Noir£287.40 Per Case (Ex VAT) Equiv price per bottle £23.95 (ex VAT)
Monsieur Henri Bourgeois from Sancerre has brought a decidedly French feel to this hand-crafted New World Pinot Noir. A very complex nose of sweet black currants, mushrooms, mocha and spicy oak can be found and the small-berried bunches have created a wine with rich layers of dark fruit and ripe tannins which are seamless. Lovely to drink now, it should, however; age with elegance and reward the patient for up to 7 years.

Clear to the eye with a pale yellow hue, suggesting a ripe fruity wine, delicate on the nose with aromas of peach and white blossoms then a fresh and supple approach opens out into a rich fruitiness, flavoured with a hint of exotic fruits. A well-balanced wine confirmed by a generous and lively finish! This prestigious wine symbolises the very best of this famous area.
