You have to believe us when we say chocolate and red wine really are a match made in heaven…. when done properly! So many of us love the idea of pairing chocolate and wine. However, it is a known fact that these two items are not always compatible, as they will endlessly fight for the same ‘palate space’. With the intense flavours chocolate provides (sweet, bitter, fruity, acidic, creamy) it can make it very difficult to find a wine to perfectly complete this marriage.

If you choose to serve a red wine with a chocolate pudding, the wine must be just as intense as the pudding itself. Rich red blends, such as Chateauneuf du Pape, or fruity New World Zinfandels would both work well. Alternatively, Sweet Wine or Port would be a classic match for rich, concentrated puddings.
