Château De La Tuilerie

Château de la Tuilerie wine is created in an area of exceptional beauty near Nîmes, surrounded by woods, orchards and vineyards. The stunning mountain range of Les Cevennes lies to the west. To the south, beyond the Camargue lagoon, lies the Mediterranean Sea. This vineyard produces wines that are considered to be fundamental to the Rhône Valley.

The jewel of the Nîmes hills

The winery has been in the hands of the Comte family since 1955. It’s located in the oldest part of the Costières de Nîmes Appellation. Here vineyards rise to 80m at their highest peak on one of the seven hills, windswept by the Mistral.

River silt, refined Château de la Tuilerie wine

The hills of this area were created from silt deposited by the Rhône river during the quartz geological era. They are also made up of clay marl from the tertiary era. This light, acidic and loose soil seems to produce more refined and elegant wines than those grown on limestone.

The clay under the soil gives the vineyards very little access to water and minerals. This low yield creates a good but limited vintage made from small grapes. Combined together they create very concentrated, intense and aromatic wines.

Pioneers of sustainable farming

Great care is taken when producing Château De La Tuilerie wine so it is as environmentally-friendly as possible. Practices such as weeding and thinning on two sides make it possible to better control the crop yield.
