Petit Verdot
A grape that has been used to good effect in Bordeaux beacause it is a late-ripener, bringing acidity to the overall balance of a wine. A high-quality red-wine grape grown mainly in France's bordeaux region. Petit Verdot produces full-bodied, extremely deep-colored wines with peppery, spicy flavor characteristics. Certain modern techniques of viticulture and vinification have rendered the grape less valuable, which may prove to be a pity beacuse it also produced a characterful, long-lived, and good tannic wine when ripe.
Pronounced: Puh-TEE vehr-DOH
