Clairette
A white grape that is widely cultivated in southern France. It is also known by its full name Clairette Blanc. Clairette is one of the white grape varieties allowed for use in the red Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the white Côtes-du-Rhône wines. It is a sugar rich variety and adds a particular oiliness to blends. It is the Muscat though, not Clairette, which is chiefly responsible for the "Clairette de Die" in the Rhône.
Pronounced: Kleh-RHEHT
